Cinnamon Triangle Cookies

3 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon anise (optional)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Milk

Directions:
Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and shortening. Blend well, until mixture resembles coarse flour. Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, stirring to combine. Add water a bit at a time (and anise, if desired,) stirring well. Chill dough. Working with half of the dough at a time, roll 1/8" thick and cut with a sharp knife into triangles about 2 inches high. In a small bowl, stir 1/2 cup cinnamon and 1 tablespoon cinnamon together. Brush each cookie lightly with milk and sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture. Bake at 400°, 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly browned

My mother Doris Hill collected this recipe. She notes that this is a Spanish recipe.

Love At Home

There is beauty all around
When there's love at home.
There is joy in every sound
When there's love at home.

Roses bloom beneath our feet,
All the earth is a garden sweet,
Making life a bliss complete,
When there's love at home.
